Nine named alpine and cirque glaciers are visible in the nearby mountains as we cruise. Try a local favorite! The Matanuska Glacier is a frozen 27 mile long river of ancient ice. Thousands of years old, this massive glacier is tucked up into the head of the Matanuska Valley. You will spend over 2 hours directly on the glacier with a glacier guide by your side, learning how the Matanuska Glacier was born and how it shaped the landscape in the Matanuska Susitna Valley. The Seward Highway is a National Scenic Highway, and for good reason! Almost immediately after your Salmon Berry tour guide picks you up, you’ll learn why. Together we’ll drive  from your hotel, down the Turnagain Arm to the aerial tram on Mt. Alyeska. At the top we will enjoy stunning panoramas (weather permitting) of the Alaska wilderness. From this height on a clear day we can view glaciers and the foothills of the Chugach Mountains where they meet the sea at Cook Inlet.   The next highlight is the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Coaching is provided by a professional photographer guide along the way, as well as narrative on natural history and points of interest. This tour combines helicopter flightseeing with a landing on a glacier and showcases Alaska’s wilderness by air! Travel north to Knik River Lodge, a unique cabin style property in a majestic mountain setting just an hour from downtown Anchorage.  In addition to the cabins the lodge offers fine dining at the Raven’s Perch restaurant and is the operation base for unique helicopter tours into the surrounding Chugach Mountains. As soon as you lift off you will see the spectacular Knik Glacier and scenic Lake George.
